Following in the footsteps of sadly discontinued The Bolster, its aim is to serve the community with updates from around the parish.
If you'd like to contribute any local news or announcements (be that a sports club, community group, or personal story), please get in touch.
At some point in the future we hope to create a printed version of the news for those not online but this will depend on the success of the online version.
Do you know how to protect yourself from being cyber scammed? Craig Lang from Devon and Cornwall’s Cyber Protection Unit gave our members a detailed account of how to minimise the risks when using the internet. We thought we knew a lot about it already, but Craig informed us how the scammers are now using ever more sophisticated means to gain our trust.

He covered password protection and password manager, updating apps, backing up data, phishing, social engineering, privacy settings, WI-FI securing devices, QR codes, incoming messages, two step verification and 2 factor authentication.
It was a very informative talk and we all went away with something we realised we needed to do.
For information visit Devon and Cornwall Cyber Protection Unit’s advice page:
Do you like interesting talks? We have a variety of speakers at our meetings. Coming up we have a talk from a herbalist and a talk about the Nuremberg Trials.
Coffee with friendly faces? We meet for a get together in the MMI cafe once a month. This is the first Tuesday in the month at 10.30 am.
Cheese and Wine? We have cheese and wine get together in the WI square each August.
Craft? We have a monthly craft meeting where you can learn new skills or work on your own project. It’s a chance for a cup of tea and good chat too. Tuesdays at 2.00pm on the 4th Tuesday in the month.
Meals out? We visit local restaurants for celebrations such as Christmas and our WI birthday.
Events and visits? We join Cornwall Federation of Women’s Institutes for their events like jewellery making, floral art, creative arts days, guided walks, campaigns and competitions.
We advertise some of our activities on Helping Hands and posters on the notice boards in the village. Why not come along as a guest and see if you would like to join us?
