St Agnes Library’s Cornwall Reading Challenge launches on Saturday 11 July and runs throughout the summer until 12 September. This year’s theme, Extraordinary Explorers, invites children to sign up, borrow books and take part in reading activities, with prizes, stickers, certificates and medals to be earned along the way. Families can join for free at the library, with challenges available for both primary-aged children and younger readers.

St Agnes Parish Council is introducing a new contactless payment system at Trevaunance Cove public toilets, with a 50p charge per visit to help fund cleaning, maintenance and repairs. To ensure residents do not pay twice through Council Tax and usage charges, a £10 Residents’ Lifetime Access Card will provide unlimited access to participating parish toilets. Cards are available from the Parish Council Office, with further registration sessions to be announced.

St Agnes Library is hosting a free craft session as part of this year’s Cornwall Reading Challenge, Extraordinary Explorers. Young explorers can drop in on Saturday 4th July, from 10am to 11.30am, to make their own cardboard binoculars for their next reading adventure. No booking is required and all materials will be provided.

St Agnes Parish Council has signed a formal Letter of No Confidence in South West Water, highlighting concerns around sewage pollution, infrastructure, water bills and the impact on Cornwall’s environment, communities and tourism. While regulation sits with Government and statutory bodies, the Council is using its voice to support calls for stronger action to protect Cornwall’s rivers, beaches and public health.

St Agnes Parish Council currently has two councillor vacancies and is inviting residents to consider getting involved. A vacancy in the Mount Hawke Ward will be filled by by-election, while the Blackwater Ward vacancy will be filled by co-option. Parish councillors play an important role in shaping local services, supporting community projects and making decisions for the whole parish. St Agnes Parish Council, St Agnes Academy and Cornwall Council have worked together to introduce a new parking permit scheme to help reduce congestion and improve road safety around the school. Designed with input from pupils through a competition, the permits will allow parents and guardians to use the Trelawney Road Car Park more easily when dropping off and collecting children. The scheme will be finalised in July, with permits available from the school office in September 2026.

St Agnes Parish Council has begun preparing a Neighbourhood Priorities Statement (NPS), giving residents the opportunity to help shape how the parish is represented in Cornwall Council’s future planning. The Council will be consulting with the community over the coming months to identify local priorities on issues such as housing, transport, community facilities and the environment, with updates and opportunities to get involved shared as the project progresses.

St Agnes Parish Council has welcomed Cornwall Council’s decision to pause its planned chemical weed treatment programme for this year following widespread public concern and criticism of the consultation process. Instead, Cornwall Council will focus on non-chemical public realm improvements while working with town and parish councils on a longer-term approach. St Agnes Parish Council will continue to monitor the situation and represent local priorities.
